On the roadmap:
“Cryptographic methods are a cornerstone of cyber and information security, but their effectiveness is under threat from the development of powerful quantum computers.

  • At EU level, the EU Member States, supported by the European Commission, published a ‘Coordinated Implementation Roadmap for the Transition to Post-Quantum Cryptography’ (hereinafter referred to as the EU Roadmap) in June 2025.
  • This guideline sets out a timetable for the transition to post-quantum cryptography (PQC) in Germany, which is consistent with the EU Roadmap.
  • In particular, high-risk use cases should be migrated to quantum-secure cryptography as soon as possible, and the migration for these systems should be completed by the end of 2030 at the latest. By 2035, the migration should be completed for as many systems as possible. […]”
