At the INCYBER FORUM EUROPE in April Heike Hagemeier (BMI, BSI) and Anita Wehmann (Dutch Ministry of the Interior), both from the European Workstream on PQC, presented the status of the PQC roadmap for the EU: „acting upon the quantum threat now!“

The European Commission issued a Recommendation on Post-Quantum Cryptography on April 11, 2024 to encourage member states to develop and implement a harmonized approach when the EU transitions to post-quantum cryptography. A PQC working group (as part of the NIS Cooperation Group) has been set up to help member states develop this roadmap. It is co-chaired by France, Germany and the Netherlands, and currently includes representatives from 19 EU member states.

The working group also serves as a forum for EU member states to exchange information on their progress and best practices in migrating to the PQC.

In the first part of this masterclass, the co-chairs they have presented the working group’s plan to establish a coordinated European roadmap on PQC, and discuss the first milestones planned for 2025.

The second part of the masterclass was interactive. They included questions to engage interaction with the audience and left time for further discussion and questions.
