Google Cloud and the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) signed a strategic cooperation agreement in February 2025. The aim is to support the development and provision of secure and sovereign cloud solutions for federal, state and local authorities.
A particular focus of the agreement is on ensuring data sovereignty. The solutions developed are specifically tailored to the requirements of the public sector – in compliance with German and European data protection regulations – and meet the highest standards in terms of data sovereignty and security.
The cooperation covers the entire Google Cloud portfolio, including AI applications and associated support services. Details of the specific products and services are set out in the Google Cloud customer contracts and can be viewed at cloud.google.com/terms/services. However, Google will not provide access to user data.
